Support for Developing Communities

Ever since the inception of CREWC, we have had the intention of connecting with developing communities for mutual support. To this end, we try to post initiatives with which we are personally familiar. We have no financial interaction other than presenting their descriptions and contact information for people who are interested in supporting them.

These listings meet the following criteria:
+ They are based on a vision of healing and sustainability
+ 90% or more of donations go directly to the project
+ There are elements of education and community healing
+ People can be involved on a hands-on basis
+ They have a solid, accountable admin structure

Sri Ram

Our founder, Katherine Willow, has been involved for over two decades with an orphanage, school, and clinic in Northern India called Sri Ram Ashram. She spent a month there in 1997 with her family, and two months later started CREWC after inspiration from Sri Ram.

Sri Ram runs a school for hundreds of local children who would not otherwise have the opportunity. Its orphanage takes care of its charges like a large family and visiting there is heartwarming. The clinic is free to local residents and is staffed by volunteers, often from North America (i.e. Katherine spent her time updating the physical exams and nutrition for the orphans). There is also a spiritual aspect so that visitors can take part in meditations, talks and singing.

Happiness is not an individual matter. When you are able to bring relief, or bring back the smile to one person, not only that person profits, but you also profit. The deepest happiness you can have comes from that capacity to help relieve the suffering of others. So if we have the habit of being peace, then there is a natural tendency for us to go in the direction of service.Nothing compels us, except the joy of sharing peace, the joy of sharing freedom from afflictions, freedom from worries, freedom from craving, which are the true foundations for happiness.
