| West Carleton Emergency Preparedness Pilot Project
Carp Ridge EcoWellness Centre wants to develop a neighbourhood emergency preparedness network to facilitate coping in difficult times: flooding, winter storms, power outages or anything that disrupts everyday life.
An event that could simply be a manageable crisis if there is enough food, water and fuel, might become a critical situation without these core necessities. It won’t be enough if only a few families are prepared ~ we all have to be ready if we want to remain safe in a drawn-out crisis.
The network intends to partner with government and community groups to set up lines of communication through neighbourhood links. Each link would have a representative who would provide emergency preparedness checklists, encouragement and useful information.
To this end, we have defined a pilot project. We invite community-minded individuals to participate in a concrete, beneficial and fun project. These pilot representatives will be asked to do the following:
1. Sign up with us, preferably with a buddy. Use the contact info on the right yellow-gold panel. (If you email us, type Emerg Prep Pilot Project in the subject line. Then submit your name, the best way to reach you, and what neighbourhood you might want to represent.)
2. Review the material we have prepared. You can call us to have them sent/faxed, or download them (in .pdf format) from the yellow-gold panel at right. They include an introductory letter, a questionnaire, and an emergency home survival kit developed by the city of Ottawa.
3. Decide on the neighbourhood you want to represent.
4. Hold a meeting to discuss emergency preparedness.
5. Provide feedback so we can develop a standardized package to distribute to other interested neighbourhoods.
Support will be available for questions that come up. If you are interested, we look forward to hearing from you and answering any questions.
