Dialogues for a Sustainable Future
print text-only version

During 2006 and 2007 the Centre hosted an ongoing series of facilitated group discussions that explored how we can create a sustainable, successful future in West Carleton. On a Sunday afternoon each month, from the fall of 2006 into the summer of 2007, we examined a different topic and how it might affect us locally.

We began our discussions with a short backgrounder on the month's topic and then asked such questions as: Do we agree? What other points can be made? Who do we believe? And what can we do?

Local experts were invited to share their knowledge and wisdom, and the participation of the local community made these events a real success. Below are some of the topics we discussed:

In the Event of a Pandemic

Youth Facing the Future

Energy Options for the Future

What Could a Sustainable Economy
Look Like?

Sustainable Homes

The Future of Agriculture

Responding to Global Warming

Politics for a Sustainable Future

Handling the stress of Change

If you like you can call 613-839-1179 for more info on these topics and dialogue participants. You can also check out a few pictures from the meetings going to our photo page.

The necessity of taking the industrial world to its next stage of evolution is not a disaster -- it is an amazing opportunity.

How to seize this opportunity, how to bring into being a world that is not only sustainable, functional and equitable but also deeply desirable is a question of leadership and ethics and vision and courage, properties not of computer models but of the human heart and soul.
